Laundry Room Makeover Reveal

Do you all remember when I agreed to participate in a 6 week room makeover challenge with some of my favorite blog buddies?  (If not, you can read more here.)

I basically waited until yesterday to start.  I mean, I did make a pretty awesome vintage clothespin mirror but other than that.  Nothing.  The place was a pigsty.  Also, it was super cloudy so my photos are lousy.  Eh.

Participating in this challenge was totally worth it even just to motivate me to clean out this room yesterday.  I'm kind of loving how it turned out.  Basically because it's clean.  It also feels more like current Michelle.  Not Michelle circa 2009. Although 2009 Michelle's hobby was cleaning so there's that.  I should channel my past lame self.

As you can see, I have a pretty new rug.  I bought it for $10 at a garage sale this Summer.  I like it not only because it's beautiful but also because my feet won't have to freeze this Winter.

The washboard collection stayed and was joined by the vintage clothespin mirror.  This whole get-up makes me happy.  A nice reminder that laundry may suck in 2014 but at least I'm not hand scrubbing my husband's underwear.  It's all about perspective, right?

I wanted to install a sink to the left of the washer and dryer.  It's all plumbed out and ready to go.  We just didn't feel like forking over the dough for one right after our massive living room renovation.  It's on the "someday" list.  I'd also like a shelf across the top of the washer and dryer.  Again, "someday" list. Dreaming big around these parts.

As you can see, I removed the floral valence.  It didn't play well with the rug. I tried making a new one.  It looked horrible.  After a toddler-like meltdown, I decided that I liked the window without any kind of covering.  It's nice and bright now.  At least that's what I negotiated with myself.

The left hand side of the room got a facelift as well.  The loud striped curtain was swapped for a ticking stripe.  Nothing screams "laundry" like ticking stripe.  The red shelves were swapped out for a nice wood tone.  I picked up four metal baskets at a local antique store.

My brother painted the cow painting.  I love it.  It makes me happy.  Your laundry room should have happy things, right?

I picked up the old window at an antique store for $5.  I cut some vinyl with my fancy Silhouette (thanks again, Kim!) to whip up this sign.  Did you all know that laundry signs are sort of horrible lately?  I mean, "Laundry today or naked tomorrow".  No.  I don't know about you but laundry today or dirty clothes tomorrow.  Or "Laundry.  Drop your pants here."  What?   No.  Long story, long. I went with a simple "open 24 hours" sign.

Not a drastic makeover but we've come along ways since moving in.  Check out our original photos here.

Most importantly, Ike approves.  Actually he was just confused as to why Nate and I were hanging out in the laundry room when there weren't any dirty socks to steal.
